“I think it’s so foolish for people to want to be happy. Happy is so momentary—you’re happy for an instant and then you start thinking again. Interest is the most important thing in life; happiness is temporary, but interest is continuous.”

Things I’m starting to realize:

1. It may be time to accept that I will never sky dive or travel to Africa or South America, because frankly, I am too scared.

2. Being too scared to do those things does not necessarily mean that I am uninteresting.

3. The occasional rushes of venomous resentment I feel towards those brave enough to do them is simply a character flaw I must learn to manage, and not an unforgivable sin that I need to completely purge from by being in order to be a good person.

“The whole “men initiate, women wait around” plan is bullshit. Newsflash: men who are shy, insecure, or afraid of rejection exist. They are not bad people. Many of them make awesome boyfriends. It’s also fucked to tell women that their sole recourse, if they want to date a dude, is to look pretty in his general direction. Instead of taking away women’s power and making men fit a role that they may not be comfortable with, why don’t we let people who like initiating initiate and people who don’t like initiating not initiate?” — Fuck Off Tracy McMillan — The Good Men Project (via sexisnottheenemy)

“F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote The Great Gatsby and is one of our national treasures. A true giant of writing. The silliest thing he ever wrote is the quote, “There are no second acts in American lives.” This is insane. If there’s one thing that typifies the American experience it is that reinvention and rebirth are intrinsic to it. Raymond Chandler didn’t write a single word of any consequence until his 40s. Julia Child learned to cook at 40! Clint Eastwood directed his first film at 41. Don’t be afraid to be a late bloomer. Repeatedly.” — Adam Savage (via thenameishunter)
